Residential Trauma Treatment Programs

Repair, Rebuild, and Renew

Trauma profoundly influences the mind and body, often intertwining the two in a dance of distress.

Trauma, a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, casts a profound and lasting shadow on an individual's mental health.

Whether stemming from a singular event or a series of unfortunate episodes, trauma can manifest in various ways, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. As the complexities of trauma’s effects on the psyche become more understood, there is mounting recognition of the pressing need for specialized trauma treatment programs. Residential Trauma Treatment Programs offer immersive healing environments that prioritize an individual’s unique experiences and challenges, addressing them with targeted care and therapy.

The Effects of Trauma on the Mind and Body

Trauma profoundly influences the mind and body, often intertwining the two in a dance of distress. Psychologically, trauma can precipitate various disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These conditions can lead to intrusive thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, and heightened states of arousal or hyper-vigilance. Moreover, cognitive functions may be compromised, causing memory, attention, and decision-making difficulties. Physiologically, the body’s stress response activates during traumatic events, releasing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. While initially protective, chronic activation of this stress response due to unresolved trauma can wreak havoc on the body. It can impair the immune system, disrupt sleep patterns, cause digestive issues, and even contribute to chronic conditions like heart disease. This intricate interplay between the mind and body underpins the multifaceted impact of trauma and underscores the need for holistic interventions.

The Importance of Specialized Treatment

Traumatic experiences are as unique as the individuals who endure them, making it impossible to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach to healing. The intricate interplay of emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical scars demands specialized treatment that is attuned to the nuances of each person’s experience. Generalized therapies might offer some relief but often fail to address trauma’s root causes and multifaceted aftermath.

Specialized treatments, on the other hand, delve deeper, employing evidence-based methodologies tailored to the individual’s needs. They provide a comprehensive therapeutic framework, ensuring the healing addresses the overt symptoms, underlying triggers, and associated emotional wounds. In essence, specialized treatment acknowledges the singularity of trauma and champions a more personalized, effective route to recovery.

Preparing for Admission: What to Expect

Taking a step towards healing by considering admission to a treatment facility is a brave and significant move. At Renewal Lodge, we understand the myriad of emotions this decision can stir, and we aim to make the transition as seamless and supportive as possible. Here’s a brief guide on what to expect:

Steps Involved in the Admission Process

Begin by contacting Renewal Lodge by phone or email. A dedicated admissions team member will provide a warm, non-judgmental first point of contact.
This is a comprehensive evaluation to understand your needs, medical history, and the nature of the trauma. It assists in crafting an individualized treatment plan.
The team will discuss the cost, insurance details, and payment options, ensuring transparency and clarity.
You’ll schedule an intake date once everything is in order. On this day, a team member will guide you through the facility, introduce you to key staff, and help you settle in.
Post admission, there will be an orientation process, familiarizing you with the daily routines, therapies, and rules of the facility. The commencement of your personalized treatment program will follow this.

Dear Renewal Lodge Visitors,

My name is John Bruna, co-founder of the Mindfulness in Recovery® Institute, and more importantly, a grateful member of the recovery community. I am incredibly fortunate to have found my recovery in 1984. Of course, I did not achieve continuous recovery through willpower or my own efforts, but through the guidance and caring support of countless others that selflessly taught me how to live through the 12 Steps.

My journey of recovery brought this once homeless, shame-based, traumatized, insecure young man to a life far beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I discovered self-worth, the joy of helping others, the gifts of parenting and grandparenting, and most importantly the ability to live a meaningful and purposeful life with integrity.

One of the greatest gifts of recovery is that I have the opportunity to give back and help others discover their self-worth, dignity, and the skills to fully live lives that they find truly meaningful. This is the inspiration for developing the skills of Mindfulness in Recovery® (MIR) to meet the needs of new generations struggling with alcohol and other substance use disorders. MIR is a set of evidence-based skills designed to help people fully integrate their tools of recovery in ways that are personalized, practical, and in alignment with their deepest values.

While we train counselors and therapists throughout the United States and abroad, I personally have chosen to work directly with the amazing team and clients at Renewal Lodge to develop the model MIR 12-step program for the nation. I choose Renewal Lodge because of the vision of its mission and the dedication of its team. Renewal Lodge is an extremely rare environment in which the staff embodies the very mindfulness and 12-step practices and skills they offer their clients. The results have been beyond my expectations. It is an honor to be here and I treasure my personal time with every client I meet.

With Gratitude,

John Bruna
